The whale shark (Rhincodon typus) is the largest fish on Earth. Despite their enormous size, these gentle giants are completely harmless to humans. Their calm nature and slow, graceful movements make swimming alongside them one of the most remarkable wildlife experiences in the Philippines.

Unlike whales, whale sharks are filter-feeding fish. They feed primarily on plankton, krill, fish eggs, and small marine organisms by filtering thousands of liters of seawater through their wide mouths. Their presence is an important indicator of a healthy marine ecosystem.

One of the whale shark's most distinctive features is its pattern of white spots and stripes. No two whale sharks share the same markings — each is unique, much like a human fingerprint — and scientists use these natural markings to identify and study individual whale sharks throughout their migrations.

Whale sharks are the only living species in the Rhincodontidae family and have inhabited Earth's oceans for millions of years. Today, they migrate through tropical and warm-temperate waters worldwide, including the rich marine ecosystems of the Philippines, where they play an essential role in maintaining ocean biodiversity.

Protecting gentle giants is the top priority. Please strictly follow these regulations.

DO'S

Listen carefully to all instructions from your guides, boat crew, and local authorities.
Wear your life jacket and snorkeling equipment properly at all times.
Enter and exit the water slowly, calmly, and only when instructed.
Maintain a minimum distance of 5 meters from the whale shark's head and 6 meters from its sides and tail.
Observe whale sharks quietly and respectfully, allowing them to swim freely in their natural habitat.
Use only reef-safe sunscreen or avoid applying sunscreen immediately before the tour whenever possible.
Respect all marine life and follow marine park regulations throughout your visit.

DON'TS

Do not touch, ride, chase, corner, or block the path of a whale shark.
Do not feed whale sharks or throw food, trash, or any objects into the sea.
Do not use flash photography, underwater lights, or bright strobes that may disturb wildlife.
Do not make loud noises, splash excessively, or behave in a manner that stresses marine life.
Do not collect corals, shells, or any marine organisms.
Do not jump from the boat unless instructed by your guide.
Do not enter the water without permission from the guide or boat crew.

산호, 조개껍데기 등 해양생물을 채집하지 마세요.
가이드의 지시 없이 보트에서 뛰어들지 마세요.
가이드나 승무원의 허락 없이 입수하지 마세요.
